Local clubs and coffee housesJammin' Java -- Our personal favorite -- highly recommended! This appealing Vienna coffee house was transformed into a full-service music venue in late 2001 by brothers Daniel and Luke Brindley. It offers a recording studio, music lessons, instrument sales, and is highlighted by an impressive, varied roster of live acts most nights of the week. In one short year, Jammin' Java is attracting an incredible line-up of performers. Treat yourself to a bowl of delicious chili and a latte when you come for a show, or even stop by for lunch. Check out the place at www.jamminjava.com State Theater -- Attractively restored former movie theater in our neighborhood, turned into a music venue. Presents a wide variety of performers, with generally more of a rockin' focus. These guys invested a lot of money and struggled through the local government bureaucracy to get this place opened, and they really need our support. Birchmere -- THE class act for live music performances. Great performers, very good acoustics (maybe not as good as the old space), and much more edible food than in the past. This Alexandria club is the best spot in the area and has a national reputation. Vic's Music Corner - Held at O'Brien's Barbecue in Rockville. Specializing in acoustic performers and singer/songwriters and part of the empire maintained by the folkie institutions Vic & Reba Heyman. |
